Jack

Emerald Ollie Jack Muffin EliTwee
Jack was one of my foster kittens. I started fostering for the local animal shelter in May of 2002. He started out being fostered by a shelter worker, and she brought him back in, and I took him with a few others. He was originally given the name of Houdini. It was a totally appropriate name as he was a major escape artist. He was also a very vocal kitten. He also had the odd habit of sucking aka nursing on the back of your neck at your hair line. I eventually broke him of that habit, but he just moved his obsession to my earlobe. As he grows older, he has less and less of a need to do that.

Once we adopted him, I decided he needed a new name. Houdini was just too many syllables, and dini just didn't fit him. When he cried for food, he very much looked like a jackal, so we named him Jack. Jack also has the ability to look like a fox, and a few other animals. He also likes to come and sit by the door when we come home. Its oh so sweet.

Jack has an amazing personality, and has quickly become my favorite cat - shhh don't tell the others. Unfortunately due to some bad advice and information when fostering, my kitties all became exposed to FIP and FIV. They all have FIP titers.. which are basically antibodies saying they were exposed. But Jack became infected with Felv as well. So far he's been in perfect health. He is going to be retested in a few weeks. *crosses fingers that he's negative*

Update: Well Jack is still FeLV positive. It is not the end of his life, but it does mean I have to be careful, keep him happy and stress free, and well fed - which is NOT going to be a problem.. lol. some research out there indicates that giving vitiamin C helps in this situation, so I am giving him some on a weekly basis... along with a smaller dose for the other kitties for good measure. Jack recently had his first birthday and is in great health and still has personality to spare

Update: 2/14/04 Jack recently had a small lump on his shoulder. The vet was concerned because of the location of it as it is where they give vaccines. When they removed it, they found it was simply a cyst. While Jack was in the clinic, I had them draw some blood and do a Felv/fiv test again, and this time Jack came up negative!! yea!! I then had them run an FIP titer test, and his test came back negative as well. Oh Happy day.
